Privacy Notice

Thank you for visiting the NIDA Criminal Justice - Drug Abuse Treatment Studies (CJ-DATS) website.

Protecting your privacy is very important to us. We do not collect any personally identifiable information (PII) about you during your visit to the CJ-DATS Web sites unless you choose to provide it to us. We do, however, collect some data about your visit to our Web site to help us better understand how the public uses the site and how to make it more helpful. We collect information from visitors who read, browse, and/or download information from our Web site. NIH/NIDA never collects information for commercial marketing or any purpose unrelated to NIH/NIDA's mission and goals.

When visitors send email messages containing personal information to the NIH/NIDA and CJ-DATS RC email boxes, NIH/NIDA and CJ-DATS RC staff responds to the letters and files them.

Types of Information Collected

  • Domain from which you access the Internet

  • IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to a computer whenever you are surfing the Web)

  • Operating system and information about the browser used when visiting the website

  • Date and time of your visit

  • Name of Web Pages visited

This information is collected as a standard procedure used for all website and does not personally identify the user. This information is also used to measure performance, security troubleshooting, and creating generic number of visit reports, which helps us assess the usefulness of our site to visitors.

Cookies

When you visit some Web sites, their Web servers generate pieces of information known as cookies. Some cookies collect personal information to recognize your computer in the future. This is not the case at CJ-DATS website, where we only occasionally use non-persistent cookies or "per-session cookies." These cookies do not collect personal information on users and they are erased as soon as you leave our Web site. Per-session cookies serve technical purposes like providing seamless navigation through a Web site. These cookies do not permanently record data and they are not stored on your computer's hard drive. CJ-DATS cookies are stored in memory and are only available during an active browser session. Again, once you close your browser, the cookie disappears.

Intrusion Detection

This site is maintained by a U.S. Government funded program. It is protected by various provisions of Title 18, U.S. Code. Violations of Title 18 are subject to criminal prosecution in federal court.

For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, we employ software programs to monitor traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. In the event of authorized law enforcement investigations, and pursuant to any required legal process, information from these sources may be used to help identify an individual.
